World
Breastfeeding Week| World Breastfeeding Week, celebrated around the world since 1992, takes place during the first week of August, although celebrations continue throughout the year in some areas. |
|
The theme for 1998 was “Breastfeeding: The Best Investment” and aimed to initiate actions to promote, protect and support breastfeeding as one of the best investments in the health of a nation. In the WABA ’98 Action Sheet, WABA cautions that “economic calculations underestimate the larger value of breastfeeding. Its economic value is only a fraction of its human welfare value.” The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 1999 is “Breastfeeding: Learning for Life,” focusing on educating children, educating health professionals, and how breastfeeding enhances learning. What ideas do you have to share? Please let us know; and it’s not too late for feedback on World Breastfeeding Week 1998. For more information contact your Regional IBFAN Office or
