US launches breastfeeding promotion project

August 6 marked the launch of the US national breastfeeding promotion project, “Loving Support Makes Breastfeeding Work” specifically for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) in poverty.

Much like Health Canada’s breastfeeding promotions, the project includes pamphlets, posters, television and radio promotions. Pilot research showed that WIC clients felt embarrassed to breastfeed, had time and social constraints and lacked support from families and friends.

The campaign expects to increase public awareness and acceptance of breastfeeding.
