INFACT Canada Launches Breastfeeding Support Lobby
We are asking our members to lobby their Federal Members of
Parliament on behalf of policies that support breastfeeding.
We have included 2 Fact Sheets, the first (click
here) identifying the benefits of breastfeeding and the second
(click here) describes
policies that will help to improve breastfeeding rates in Canada.
The same Fact Sheets have been mailed to all Federal Members
of Parliament across Canada.
How to use the Fact Sheets
- Identify a friend or colleague so you can work as a team.
- You and your team member set up an appointment with your
local riding Federal MP.
- During your first meeting be prepared to discuss the importance
of breastfeeding, both the health and the economic benefits.
Plan with your team member what information each of you will
present.
- Discuss the policies as listed on Fact Sheet 2 and determine
if your MP is interested and in which policies.
- Let your MP know that you will be following up with a letter
to summarize the initial meeting and any action promised by your
MP. Let your MP know you are available to discuss breastfeeding
policies.
- Inform your MP that you will continue the discussion with
a second meeting in a number of weeks.
- INFACT Canada will be preparing follow up Fact Sheets for
you to use for your lobby.
- Inform INFACT Canada of the results of your meeting as well
as any correspondence with your MP.
